Founded in 1989 as a safety benchmarking and improvement tool, STEP has evolved into a world-class safety management system that dramatically improves safety performance among participants regardless of company size or type of work. Participating ABC member firms measure their safety processes and policies on 25 key components through a detailed questionnaire with the goal of implementing or enhancing safety programs that reduce jobsite incidents.
Upcoming Training Dates:
OSHA 10 and 30 Construction
The 10-hour safety course covers general safety and health hazards for entry-level workers. The 30-hour safety course provides a greater variety of safety subjects and in-depth, industry-specific training.
First Aid/CPR/AED
This adult and pediatric course prepares participants for how to care for minor and life-threatening injuries. All participants who successfully pass this training with get Red Cross certification for two years.
Lift Training
MEWP (Mobile Elevated Work Platform) training is a type of safety training for workers who use equipment such as scissor lifts, boom lifts, and aerial work platforms. The training focuses on the safe use, operation, and maintenance of these types of equipment to prevent accidents and injuries
PPE
Understanding PPE, what it does and what equipment is needed for each job is a critical part of the construction industry. Using the right PPE can reduce many job site injuries and accidents.
Crane & Rigging
An introduction to rigging and hand signals. Estimating weights and chapters on sling angles. Different types of rigging gear and hand signals. Common safety hazards.
Scaffolding and Fall Protection
Skilled trade workers are bound to work several feet off the ground. Know how to protect yourself and employees while performing work safely, and which equipment to use before workers’ feet ever leave the ground.
Confined Space
Working in trenches, pits, silos, tanks, et. has a lot of concerns. Entry and exit may be very limited, and ventilation. Knowing how to be prepared is the best way to prevent death or illness.
Fire Protection and Prevention
Understand and be able to recognize fire hazards on the job site. Also learn what equipment to use to put out fires, as well as what PPE is needed when extinguishing flames.
OSHA’s Four Focus
Learn about the 4 major areas of construction accidents and/or deaths. CAUGHT IN/BETWEEN, ELECTROCUTION, FALLS, STRUCK-BY. Accidents are accidents; learn how to prevent them.
Crane and Life Plans
Operating machines on site requires certification. We offer On-Site certifications for machine operators. Keep your jobsite(s) safe.
Excavations
Know the types of soil you are working with, proper shoring techniques, PPE, hazards, structural stability & sloping. Learn how to protect from the hazards of excavation.
ABC Safety Training Evaluation Program
Step is a great tool for measuring safety performance against the best of the best. Use it to make sure you are keeping up with the most current safety techniques. Nearly every advancement made in the area of safety has been from participation in the STEP process.
